Voyage Healing is reshaping mental health care in Bala Cynwyd, the Main Line, and Philadelphia with advanced and holistic approach

Advanced Psychiatry

When multiple treatments haven’t brought the hoped-for results, it doesn’t mean healing isn’t possible. Mental health conditions can involve complex changes in brain function, biology, and the nervous system. That’s why, for some people, treatment may require approaches beyond conventional medication. Our advanced approach incorporates standard treatment with interventional psychiatry, using targeted treatments that work directly with the brain and its biological processes to open new possibilities for care.

Holistic Mental Health Care

A person is more than a diagnosis. Biology, life experiences, emotional well-being, and the mind-body connection all play a role in mental health and healing. Our holistic approach considers these interconnected factors, creating personalized care that supports the whole person alongside advanced treatment options.

Yes, standard antidepressants primarily target neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine. Voyage Healing offers interventional treatments that work differently, including ketamine therapy and Spravato®, which target the brain’s glutamate system, and TMS, which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. These approaches offer different pathways for treating depression,  particularly for people who haven’t found sufficient relief with conventional treatments, and people with treatment-resistant depression.

Voyage Healing helps people experiencing a range of mental health conditions, including depression, treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), suicidal ideation, and substance abuse. Voyage Healing offers three advanced treatment options: ketamine therapy, Spravato® (esketamine) nasal spray, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). These treatments may be considered for certain mental health conditions, including depression and treatment-resistant depression, depending on the treatment and individual clinical circumstances. Our team can help patients understand the available options and determine which may be appropriate for their needs.

Yes. In addition to advanced psychiatric treatments, Voyage Healing offers psychotherapy and medication management. These services can support ongoing mental health care and may be incorporated into an individualized treatment plan alongside other appropriate approaches.

These advanced psychiatric therapies all have strong evidence for treating more severe depression that is not responding to traditional antidepressant medication.  Interestingly,  neuroplasticity is theorized to be a shared mechanism of how they treat depression.

When used under medical supervision, ketamine is an extremely safe medication. There is often a slight blood pressure and heart rate increase, similar to during exercise. Ketamine has been used clinically for over fifty years. It is the anesthesia of choice for children and the elderly due to its extremely safe profile. Ketamine for mental health issues is typically used at much lower doses than for anesthesia. At this point, the evidence does not reveal long-term side effects for low-dose ketamine. However, more research needs to be done on possible long-term side effects. It is known that people who abuse high doses of ketamine (often 100x more than low-dose ketamine – daily) have a risk of bladder damage and cognitive deficits. In contrast, there is some research showing that  lower doses of ketamine may improve cognition and memory.

Yes, one can choose to have their ketamine experiences with a support nurse or with a therapist.  Patients who are doing ketamine with a therapist, often have a few preparation appointments with a therapist to understand their intentions and prepare for the ketamine experience.  They may also meet with the therapist after to more deeply process the ketamine sessions.  Having a therapist present may be additional cost.  Many who choose IV ketamine continue to work with their own trusted therapist, around the ketamine experience.  Our team is happy to discuss integrating therapy with ketamine to your therapist and care team.

Whether you are with a support nurse or are adding a Voyage therapist, we are committed to offering you the highest level of care.  We never leave a patient alone in a room, and go over many details in preparing you to understand the many ways to get the most out of your ketamine treatments.  All of our staff are highly trained in how to psychologically support patients undergoing the powerful mind altering qualities of ketamine.
